Emmeline Pankhurst was a suffragette who campaigned for the right of women to vote. Christabel Pankhurst (1880-1958) was a suffragette born in Manchester to the leader of the women’s suffrage movement, Emmeline Pankhurst. Emmeline Pankhurst (nee Emmeline Goulden) was born on July 15, 1858 in the Moss Side district of Manchester. She was one of ten children and the eldest daughter of Robert Goulden, a merchant, and Sophia (nee Craine). Pankhurst learned to read when she was three years old.

Frank died in childhood. 2017-09-07 Emmeline Pankhurst (born Gouldon) in Moss Side ,Manchester on the 14/15 of July 1858. Gouldon ,the eldest of 10 children, grew up in a politically active family and much to her parents delight followed their lead. In 1878 she married Richard Pankhurst, leader barrister, who at the time was 24 years older than Emmeline had four children in the first six years of marriage: Christabel Pankhurst (1880), Sylvia Pankhurst (1882), Frank (1884) and Adela Pankhurst (1885). Richard Pankhurst became a leading figure in radical politics in Manchester.
